One hundred fifty years ago today, the President who led us through the darkest period in American history was taken down by an assassin’s bullet. This should have been the start of reconstructing the country torn apart by two separate beliefs. Instead it set back the healing by many years. It would be impossible to determine the actual effects of this tragedy, but in no way can it be considered anything other than devastating. Lincoln literally gave his life for the values that we all support today. One nation. One people. We constantly test these philosophical beliefs, and without the 16th President, we would be two countries instead of the one we are today. It is worth a moment in our busy lives to recognize the importance of this man and the horrific event which took him off this earth. Out of respect, the villain who took him from us gets no mention.
Thank you Mr. Lincoln.
