The 2022 Masters is here. But this is more than just a golf tournament. It is the single most treasured four rounds of golf and sought after trophy that is played by the world’s greatest golfers. But prior to the start of the Masters, we need need to look at why this is an event that captivates the entire world of sports. It doesn’t start until the ceremonial tee shots by legends of days past. Today that honor was bestowed upon the three of the greatest to ever play…… Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and the newest former Masters champion Tom Watson, to start the tournament. Between them 11 Masters titles. My brother (and partner on Sports with Mono and Mono!) and I have long admired these 3 gentlemen of the game and watched them conquer one of the toughest events to win. And they all did it multiple times. Jack with six, Gary with three and Tom with two. But to call them ambassadors of the game would be a major understatement to say the least. What they have done outside of the game is significant enough to not only promote the game of golf, but to make society a better place to be. If giving back to the community is not an obligation of being a admired sports figure, then it should be. And these three gentlemen epitomize meeting that obligation. They have not only set the standard for today’s athletes of what a role model should be, they still practice those values today. I have had the privilege of seeing all of them in person and was just as honored watch them them start today’s Masters. Yes, the Tiger Woods story is polarizing, but even Tiger realizes that without his predecessors, it would be just another golf tournament. Unfortunately, some day these three men won’t be with us to start the tournament some day, and other former greats like Tiger will take their place, but take a moment to relish this moment, and the significance these great sports figures have given to the sports world today. Thank you Mr. Nicklaus, Mr. Player and Mr. Watson for the memories you have given us. And thank you in advance Mr. Woods for carrying on their legacy. And now ladies and gentlemen, let the Masters begin………
