Tony Gwynn passed away at 54 years old. This is a loss for all of sports, not just baseball. He was as classy a man as the sport ever produced. Not to mention he was also one of the greatest hitters of our generation. It was a shame that he never got a World Series ring, but he still exhibited sportsmanship every time he stepped on the field. And he did just as much for the game off the field. Someone like Tony will be judged on his character rather than the number of rings he doesn’t have, because there are many more guys with rings that don’t have a fraction of the class Tony Gwynn had.
